LUMBERTON — A 26-year-old Pembroke man was arrested on today and charged with statutory rape, according to sheriff’s Lt. Kathy Torre.
John David Oxendine, of 38 Trixie Drive, was charged with two counts of felony statutory rape of a person 13 years or older, and two counts of felony indecent liberties with a child, according to Torre. Torre said the victim was 14 years old.
Torre said the incident was reported to the Robeson County Sheriff’s Office on Aug. 21 and sheriff’s Detective Jimmy Hammonds conducted the investigation. Oxendine was arrested at about 10 a.m. at the Robeson County Courthouse while he was there for an unrelated matter, according to Torre.
Oxendine is being held at the Robeson County jail on $100,000 bond.
