ROWLAND — Kwinton Hinson poured in 32 points, anchoring the Fairmont boys basketball team to a 73-63 win over South Robeson on Thursday in the Robeson County Shootout in Rowland.

Fairmont (5-3) and South Robeson (0-7) were tied at 61-61 with 2 minutes, 57 seconds left before the Golden Tornadoes ended the game on a 12-2 run. Hinson keyed the flurry with five points.

The two teams shared nine ties and had seven lead changes throughout the contest.

The Mustangs, led by De'Mauri Rowdy who had 17 points, rallied from a double-digit deficit in the first half to grab a slim 36-35 edge at halftime. Anthony Galbreath scored nine of his 14 points during a 14-3 run compiled in the last 2:25 of the half.

Hinson and Fairmont, however, proved to be too much in the second half. The sophomore forward helped ignite a 10-0 run early in the third, scoring six of those points highlighted by a dunk.

Shemar Barfield chipped in 13 points for the Tornadoes.

Michael Smith added 13 of his own for the Mustangs.

Fairmont advances to Saturday's fifth-place game against Purnell Swett, winners over Red Springs. Tip-off is slated for noon at The University of North Carolina at Pembroke.

South Robeson girls top Dillon

Savannah Hunt's 16 points helped lead the South Robeson girls basketball team to a 54-46 win over Dillon on Thursday.

A'terria Quick added 13 points for the Lady Mustangs, including eight in the third quarter that helped South Robeson pull away for good.

Briana Lee led Dillon (2-5) with 11 points.

The Lady Mustangs (2-5) will face St. Pauls, which topped Purnell Swett, in the Robeson County Shootout's fifth-place game on Saturday at 10 a.m. at UNCP.

Dillon, which entered the tournament undefeated at 5-0, has been knocked out of the tournament with two straight Shootout losses.
