Katherine B. Dial, 89, of 430 O’Quinn Road, was born Aug. 25, 1923, and went to be with her Lord and Savior on Dec. 15, 2012, at Morrison Manor Hospice of Scotland County.

The funeral will be 3:30 p.m. Tuesday at Prospect United Methodist Church, the Revs. Dr. Kenneth Locklear, Bill James Locklear, Robert Mangum and Bro. Dell Harris officiating. Entombment will follow in the Prospect UMC Cemetery.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James H. Dial Sr.; a great-grandchild, Baby R.L. Locklear; three brothers, James Hector Brooks, Eugene Brooks and Cleveland Brooks; a sister, Mary Revels; and her parents, O’Quinn and Bertha Brooks.

Dial graduated from Pembroke State College in 1946, and was honored as the first homecoming queen at that time. She went on to teach in the Robeson County Public School System for 30 years, were she made a lasting impression upon many students, colleagues and friends. She was a devoted member of Prospect United Methodist Church and United by Faith Community Ministries. She was a dedicated member of Prospect UM Women and Evans Crossing Ladies Auxiliary. She was an inspiration to all who knew and met her. She had an undeniable love for God and exhibited this in her life to others.

Dial leaves to cherish her memories two sons, James H. Dial Jr. (Cheri) of Wilmington, and Dennis D. Dial of Las Vegas; two daughters, Gina Q. Dial of Pembroke, and Colette D. Locklear (Glen) of the home; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two sisters, Evelyn B. Hood (David) of Hertford, and Francis Brooks of Fairmont; a brother, Gerald Brooks (Clara) of Maxton; a special lifelong friend, Lettie Mae Oxendine;12exceptional caregivers, Vicky Hunt, Doris Locklear, Diane Collins, Veronica Jacobs, Zola Collins, Venus Locklear, Alice Garby, Heather Collins, Daven Collins, Kaye Cummings, Nicole Clark and Faye Bullard; and a host of relatives and friends.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today at Locklear & Son Funeral Home.

The visitation will be one hour before the service at the church.
