To the Editor,
A nation has mourned the murders of countless victims in our country. The National Rifle Association has said put a police officer in every school.
I really don’t think that the NRA has ever been to Robeson County. We might be one of the poorest counties in the nation, but we love our children and there have been resource officers in our school system for years. The Public Schools of Robeson County is way ahead of those school systems in this nation that will return from the holidays to find the first armed resource officers in their schools. These officers have been a part of our schools for many years.
I have to say thank you to the Public Schools of Robeson County for keeping our children safe.
When the government did away with the majority of care for the mentally ill, the prisons in our state became the new mental hospitals. One day it will dawn on them that mental illness does not go away with a budget cut. If anything, it gets worse.
While the government is busy putting armed officers in the schools, Congress should remember they are the ones who took God out of the schools and took away the parents’ rights to take their child to the woodshed for a good spanking.

I say if you don't want your kid beat, home-school it.
As a kid I rode a bike without a helmet, sat in the front and back seat of a car without seatbelts, jumped out of 2 story pack-houses(barnes), was throwed in the river and told to "learn how to swim", fist fought with friends, snuck out behind the barn and chewed tobacco, etc..... And look at me, I'm perfect.
Let those teachers whip your kid, it'll probably help his whining.
Ps. Here's a website for you: www.beatkids.org. "A beat kid is a good kid"
EMENTED CORRECTLY has a curriculum to be TAUGHT to the kids. Those who truly care about every Robeson County kid being equipped with refusal skills to "Just Say No" would ensure that collaborative efforts and accountability would guide the implementation and have the trained officers TEACHING the curriculum (direct empowerment of the kids). Another grant is the GREAT (Gang Resistance Education and Training) one. Robeson County has had several of these through the years. Are the resource officers teaching these curriculums? If they are being channelled through the local Boys and Girls Clubs instead of the schools then there are many public school students who are missing the benefit. Step Up Robeson!
