Douglas Martin
LUMBERTON — Douglas Sutherland Martin, 94, of Lumberton, formerly of Red Springs, died Dec. 19, 2012, atSoutheastern Regional Medical Center.
A memorial will be 2 p.m. Saturday at the Red Springs Presbyterian Church, the Rev. Shuford White officiating. Interment will be 1:30 p.m. Saturday in the Alloway Cemetery.
Martin was born in England on June 11, 1918, to the late Alan Martin and Beatrice Farquhar.
Martin honorably served in the Royal Canadian Navy Reserve during WWII and the Korean War. He was a member of the Red Springs Presbyterian Church, where he served on many committees. He was employed with Sinclair Lumber Company in Laurinburg as a purchasing agent. Martin enjoyed spending his spare time maintaining his yard.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Margaret Bullock Martin; and his second wife, Bobby Fields McGirt Martin.
He is survived by his wife, Rosemary Gibson-Martin of Lumberton; a son, Alan D. Martin (Sue) of St. Albert, Alberta, Canada; a daughter, Margaret M. Garrard (Kenneth Williams) of Sechelt, British Columbia, Canada; a stepson, Pem McGirt of Pinehurst; a brother, Kent Martin (Joan) of Vernon, British Columbia, Canada; his grandchildren, Christa Huberdeau (Mike), Scott Martin (Leah), Craig Martin and Michael Kelly (Teresa); his great-grandchildren, Tyler, Olivia, Chase and Cohen; and many nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 1 to 5 p.m. Friday at the home of Douglas and Rosemary Gibson-Martin in Lumberton.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Red Springs Presbyterian Church, 117 N. Vance St., Red Springs, N.C., 28377 and/or The Salvation Army, 220 E. Russell St., Fayetteville, N.C., 28301.
