LUMBERTON — Two teenagers are among three people who have pleaded guilty recently to murder in unrelated cases, according to District Attorney Johnson Britt.

Alton Terrel McRae, 19, of 3700 Smith Mill Road, Lumberton, Mitchell Dwayne Lowery, 18, of 41 Reservation Road, Shannon, and James Ezra White Jr., 20, of 1906 E. Seventh St., Lumberton, all entered their pleas of guilty to second-degree murder during hearings in Superior Court.

McRae pleaded guilty on Jan. 9 in the shooting death of Fred Stewart on July 29, 2009, and was sentenced to between 10 years, five months and 13 years, three months in prison. Stewart was shot to death at Turner Terrace, a public housing complex in South Lumberton, after Stewart accused McRae of being a police informant, according to Britt. McRae had been out on bond since his arrest on July 31, 2009.

Lowery pleaded guilty on Jan. 11 in the shooting death of Dennis Locklear, 20, of Rennert, on Oct. 29, 2009, and was sentenced to a minimum of nine years, two months, and 11 years and nine months. Lowery was a juvenile at the time of the murder, but was tried as an adult, according to Britt. The murder occurred at Locklear’s parents’ house after Lowery was accused of stealing a marijuana plant by a third individual. Lowery left and returned to the home with a shotgun and killed Locklear.

White pleaded guilty on Jan. 14 to the shooting death of Dwight Jordan, of Fayetteville, on June 27, 2009, at Turner Terrace and was sentenced to between 19 years, nine months and 24 years, six months in prison. White also pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit armed robbery, armed robbery in the shooting death and, in unrelated matters, he pleaded guilty to a common law robbery charge, breaking and entering and larceny.

Don't know two of these guys. I do know the one in the middle. He didn't have a record or any previous history of violence. My thoughts on his verdict.... he didn't get a fair trial. What happened to self-defense. I don't condone killing or murdering others. BUT when you're protecting yourself it's a different story. My thoughts on him being tried as an adult and it happened years ago as a juvenile. His case should’ve stayed in juvenile court. The parent's of this young man was blind -sided. Court system really did him under.

Wait...he left and came back with a gun, he agreedthats what happened (he pled guilty), and while he was a juvenile, he was plenty old enough to understand the consequences of his action...he willingly killed someone and will be on the street by 30...doesnt make me feel good about the courts at all...

There was nothing real about anything you said. . . He had a juvenile record. . And he didn't receive a fair trial or any trial at all. The victim was no saint but he waited and killed him. He was within 30 days of being 16. . . They did the right thing. . . If you want to do grown man actions. . . Get grown man consequences. He did himself under by pulling the trigger from 30 yards and the man is in his own yard.

According to the story ALL these MURDERS occured OVER 3 years ago. One of the murderers has been OUT ON BOND since July 31, 2009!!!! And the MAXIMUM ANY of them will have to serve is 24 years and 9 months, and TWO of them won't have to serve even HALF that long. And they ALL had previous records. I say Robeson County DOES NOT HAVE a District Attorney. There might be someone filling the office, but he's ABSOLUTELY INCOMPETENT.

I've only heard of guns at schools 3 times in 15 years. Columbine, Virginia tech, and this last one in Connecticut. Seems there doing a pretty good job with the schools. Wish I could say the same about the government housing complexes with daily occurances of gun violence...

I thought guns we not allowed at the government housing complexes.. I guess these guys didn't get the memo. That Turner terrace place doesn't seem like a place to raise kids...
