LUMBERTON — Lumberton’s boys basketball team captured its first Southeastern Conference win of the season Tuesday night, running away from arch rival Purnell Swett in the second half for a 93-74 victory.

All five starters scored in the double digits for the Pirates (6-11, 1-3) as Lumberton snapped a five-game losing streak and sent the Rams to their third consecutive defeat. Purnell Swett (3-13, 1-3) scored the game’s first 10 points and took two separate leads in the third quarter before Lumberton seized control late in the frame. The Pirates erupted for 28 points in the fourth to break open a highly-contested battle for a double-digit win.

Tyler Maynor’s game-high 20 points wasn’t enough to offset an 18-point outing from Lumberton’s Montrae Strother and a season-high 15 from Austin Revels.

Lumberton’s girls improved to 4-0 in the SEC with a convincing 62-39 win over the Lady Rams. Keanna McNeill led the way with 20 points and made 4-of-5 shots from 3 while Aliyah Ratley chipped in with 10.

South Robeson picks up first win

ROWLAND — It was only a matter of time before South Robeson bottled up its athleticism and parlayed it to a winning formula on the scoreboard.

South Robeson won its first game of the season Tuesday night in dramatic fashion, holding off East Columbus, 55-51, in a boys Three Rivers Conference battle. In a season full of single-digit losses, the Mustangs (1-13, 1-3) made multiple stops at the defensive end down the stretch to upend the Gators.
