RAEFORD — A 16-year-old boy was shot to death by a Hoke County business owner Friday during an attempted robbery, authorities said.

The teenager was identified as David Ryan Frame of 701 N. Main St., who was one of four people who tried to rob the All American Mattress and Furniture store, Sheriff Hubert Peterkin said Monday.

Two other people turned themselves in at the Hoke County Sheriff’s Office on Monday, Peterkin said. They were identified as Lewis Vega, who is 21, and Amie Lynette Ross, who is 27.

The business owner is not being identified for safety reasons and will not be charged, Peterkin said.

“We can’t find a reason to charge him,” Peterkin said. “The investigation shows he didn’t do anything wrong.”

The business on Monday offered “no comment” on the shooting.

The owner was closing the store about 8:30 p.m. when four people wearing masks approached the business, Peterkin said. Three of them came into the business, Peterkin said. One, identified as Frame, had a rifle while another person was wearing brass knuckles, Peterkin said.

Frame pointed the rifle at the owner and demanded money, Peterkin said.

The person with the brass knuckles began beating the owner, Peterkin said. The owner struggled with the men and managed to wrest away the rifle from the gunman, Peterkin said.

The owner shot the gunman with the teenager’s rifle, Peterkin said, and the other three would-be robbers fled.

Vega lives on the 300 block of Providence Way in Aberdeen, and Ross lives at Park Place Mobile Home Park in Raeford.

Each is charged with one count of robbery with a dangerous weapon, breaking and entering, aiding and abetting armed robbery and conspiracy.

Bail had not been set by late afternoon on Monday.

Authorities have not identified the third person still being sought.

I thought that if someone dies during a robbery, that murder charges would be brought against the bad guys. I am wondering why the other 3 were not charged with robbery? They should be in my opinion.

Justice served any way you look at it. The only thing that would have made this story better, had the owner dropped the other 3. No one to try, house or feed for the next several months/years, that would be nice. I know that some bleeding-heart liberal will cry that he was just a baby. A baby commiting a felony with a dangerous weapon. just remeber folks, when the bleeding-hearts let them walk, they could be knocking on your door next. Just Saying...

You are right, he should have killed the other 3. It would have been cheaper on the state. I have bought alot of furniture from this man, and I will continue to do business with him.
