LUMBERTON — A 67-year-old Lumberton man was shot recently during a confrontation that occurred at his home at 485 Nye Road, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

The condition of Billy Parham, who was struck in a shoulder, was not available this morning. He was taken to Southeastern Regional Medical Center.

According to Anthony Thompson, chief of detectives, Parham told investigators he was at his home when he heard a knock on the door at about 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Parham opened the door and a man who identified himself as “Eddie Locklear” said that he was there to see “Tiffany.”

When Parham told the man no one by that name was at the home, the man walked to a truck that was parked nearby. Parham told investigators he could see a second man in the truck.

The man who called himself Eddie Locklear then returned to the home, pulled a handgun from his jacket, and Parham told the man he was also carrying a weapon. Shots were exchanged through a storm door, and Parham was struck once in the right shoulder. It was unclear if the man calling himself Eddie Locklear was struck.

Parham described Eddie Locklear as a stocky American Indian male, about 35 years old, and wearing a gray jacket.

Parham told investigators he was not sure who fired his weapon first.

The investigating is continuing.
