Rufus Arthur McGill II, known as “Sonny” to his friends and family, of Roanoke, passed away Nov. 1, 2012, as a result of injuries received in an automobile accident.
The funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Oakey’s Roanoke Chapel.
Sonny was born on March 18, 1993, in Morgantown, W.Va., the son of Jerri Johnson McGill of Roanoke, Va., and Rufus Arthur McGill of Lumberton.
As a child, Sonny attended Covenant Christian, Cheat Lake Elementary and Westwood Middle School in Morgantown, W.Va,, and Rowland Norment Middle School in Lumberton. Sonny attended Patrick Henry and graduated from William Fleming with the class of 2011. He then attended the Art Institute of Pittsburgh and was on his way to becoming a noted artist.
Sonny is survived by his mother, Jerri Johnson McGill, of Roanoke, Va.; a brother, Mac McGill; a father, Rufus Arthur McGill; his stepmother, Kimberle McGill; three brothers, Matthew McGill, Kendrick McGill and Patrick Yuhas; and the love of his life, his dog, “Angel”.
Surviving in Morgantown, W.Va. are his grandparents, Jerry and Susan Johnson; his aunt, Cherie Johnson; his cousins, Devon Johnson, Gypsy, Ali and Carter; and his grandmother, Mary Alice McGill of Florida, his uncles, Richard Lane, Howard Lane, Arthur Lane and Recardo Lane; his aunt, Sabrina Williams; his cousins, Chantell Griffin, Richard Roberts, Destiny Fields and Isaiah Williams; and Jeremy Higley, Alex Nicklaw and Paul Brown are among Sonny’s best of friends that will forever carry a special place in their hearts for Sonny.
The family will receive friends from noon to 2 p.m. prior to the service.
