David Mitchell Tatum, 55, of Tar Heel, passed away Nov. 5, 2012.

The funeral will be 1 p.m. Saturday at White Oak Baptist Church, the Revs. Danny Lewis and Lamout Hemminger officiating. Burial will follow in Grimes Tatum Cemetery.

David wasa lieutenant with White Oak Fire Dept. He was a captain of Tar Heel Fire Dept, EMT of Tar Heel Rescue and president of Bladen County Firefighter Association. In 2006, he was Firefighter of the Year in Dublin. In 2011, he was Firefighter of the Year in White Oak. He dedicated all his time to helping others in need.

He was predeceased by his father, William Allen Tatum Sr.

He is survived by his wife, Regina Tatum “Ms. Boots” of the home; his mother, Virginia Tatum of Dublin; two sons, David Tatum Jr. of Elizabethtown and Chris Tatum of Fort Mills, S.C.; three stepchildren, Thomas Layton of Burgaw, Michelle Brown and Lisa Mahoney, both of Chesapeake, Va.; two brothers, William Tatum Jr. and Kenny Tatum Sr., both of Dublin; and 15 grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Bladen-Gaskins Funeral Home.
