Clyde Settle

CLEVELAND, N.C. — The Rev. Clyde Mitchell Settle, 88, of E. Main Street, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Jan. 28, 2013, at his home.

Due to Rev. Settle having preached his own funeral in life, a celebration of life will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Edgewood Baptist Church in Cooleemee, various speakers officiating. Interment will follow in Cleveland Town Cemetery in Cleveland with military graveside rites conducted.

He was born June 19, 1924, in Wilkes County to the late Clifton Ernest and Flossie Jane Lyons Settle.

Settle was a graduate of Fruitland Bible College. He had established Eastside Baptist Church in Statesville. Settle had also pastored at North Cooleemee Baptist Church in Cooleemee, Rayham Baptist Church, Five Forks Baptist Church and Sandhill Baptist Church, all in Robeson County. He was the current pastor of Community Baptist Church on Gladstone Road for the last 26 years.

Settle was a loving husband and father who as an “electrician” always provided for his family and will be greatly missed. Serving God was his first and foremost priority but he also enjoyed spending time with his family, hunting and fishing. He had a charisma for people and wanted to tell them about the Lord Jesus. The Rev. Settle was truly a servant of God.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Ester Holbrook and Virgie Settle; and six brothers, Clarence, Ray, Harvey, Mack, Lawrence and Harley Settle.

He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Kay Click Settle of the home; five children, Larry Settle (Vivian) of Mocksville, Ronnie Settle (Shelia) of Dillon, S.C., Renea White of Wilson, Felecia Settle McSwain and Stephanie Settle McClannon (Johnny), all of Cleveland; 11 grandchildren, Tim Settle (Sandy), Jeff Settle (Marsha), Ronnie Settle Jr., Sharon Settle, Tony Settle, Derek and Shannon, Olivia McSwain (Matthew Morgan), Brandon and Joshua McSwain and Zoe Hager; several great-grandchildren; a daughter adopted in love, Julie McIntyre and her daughter, Lilli; a sister, Zeola Holbrook; three brothers, Jack, David Lee and Avery Settle; mother-in-law, Frances Click of Cooleemee; and stepmother-in-law, Betty Click of Cleveland.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Eaton Funeral Home, Mocksville.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be considered for Community Baptist Church, P.O. Box 66, Cleveland, N.C., 27013.
