Bart Geer (93) born in Rockwell, Iowa and died at home in Fairmont. He was preceded in death by his parents, Avery and Lou Gibson Geer; a brother, Milton; and sister Susan Jean Strahorn. He is survived by former wife, Iris Carr Geer of Hampton, Va.; his daughters, Diane Geer Wood (Paul) of Charlottesville, Va. and Cheryl Geer Gresham (Winslow) of Hampton, Va., and wife Beverly Hardin Geer of Fairmont, and her children Kevin McLees (Lauren) of Richmond Va., Kristen Milholen (William) of Carrollton, Va., and Kirk McLees (Myra) of Fairmont; and a special sister-in-Law, Betty Lou Brittain of Fairmont.
He is also survived by his grandchildren, Lindsay Lesemann Kingoff (Joe) and Trip Lesemann of Richmond, Va., Connie Barritt Grizzard (Mark) and Bryce Barritt (Renee) of Kill Devil Hills, Garrett and Trent McLees of Richmond, Va., Kelly and Julia McLees of Fairmont; five great-grandsons; and many loved nieces and nephews.
Bart was a graduate of Iowa State University and enjoyed a long career at NACA/NASA Langley retiring, as Director of Systems Engineering and Operations, in 1981. After retiring he worked at Martin Marietta in Baltimore and then Fluidyne Engineering out of Minneapolis, and later as a private Engineering Consultant.
A celebration of Bart’s life will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Bethesda United Methodist Church, 8414 S. Creek Road, Orrum, N.C., 28368, the Rev. Brian Perry officiating. A memorial will be at a later date at First United Methodist Church, 110 E. Queen’s Way, Hampton, Va., 23669.
