FAIRMONT — A 33-year-old Fairmont man was shot and killed this week while the victim’s wife and two young children were nearby.

The Robesonian was told this morning that an arrest has been made in the case, but the newspaper was unable to get that information before deadline. It will be updated at www.robesonian.com as soon as it is available.

Danny Parker, director of Public Safety for Fairmont, said Travis Brown, of Sweetheart Drive, died while in surgery at Southeastern Regional Medical Center after he was shot at about 7:30 p.m. Monday He said police were able to interview Brown before he died.

Police, after receiving a 911 call, found Brown suffering with a wound to the stomach on the 400 block of Stephens Road. According to Parker, Brown had driven to that block with his wife and two kids and met an unidentified male in the street. After talking for a few minutes, they began to fight and Brown was shot.

Parker believes the murder weapon was a shotgun.

Brown’s wife and children, who were not injured, were in a parked car when the shooting occurred. The exact ages of the children are unknown but Parker believes one is an infant and the other is about 11 years old.

Fairmont police, with the assistance of investigators from the Sheriff’s Office and the District Attorney’s Office, are trying to determine why Brown went to the street and why the fight erupted.
