I am Shelly Townsend-Morant, a native New Yorker who has been a resident of Fairmont since 2001 and the newest manager of Hector MacLean Public Library in Fairmont. After retiring from The Federal Aviation Administration after 20 years, I relocated to Fairmont to help my parents.
I was also employed at The University of North Carolina at Pembroke in the School of Graduate Studies for 12 years. I am a graduate of UNC Pembroke with a B.S. degree is Mass Communications and Public Relations, and I am working towards my M.S. degree in Public Administration. I have a son, Isaiah, and I’m married to Presley “Gene” Morant.
I associate with a lot of young people in the Fairmont area, so I am thrilled to be in a position where I can help them expand their knowledge by engaging them in the hobby of reading. I plan to work in collaboration with the community and neighboring schools to help raise literacy in Robeson County.
I also believe that reading increases your vocabulary and can take you places you may never have the opportunity to go.
Please visit me at the Fairmont Library. Our hours are Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 2 to 6 p.m.; Tuesdays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.; and Thursdays from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. On Thursdays, the library is closed for lunch between 1 and 2 p.m. The library offers almost 10,000 items for you to browse and check out.
There is something for everyone and I hope to meet you soon.
