LUMBERTON — A suspicious package found this week at a Lumberton auto dealer turned out to be “nothing to be alarmed about,” according to Lumberton police Capt. Terry Parker.

The package was found at about 10:45 p.m. Monday as employees at Haywood Auto Sales on Second Street were doing inventory and prompted Lumberton police to call in other agencies, which spent all day Tuesday working to safely determine the contents of the package.

The Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office and its Bomb Squad as well as the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms responded.

According to Parker, the package was found inside a vehicle at the auto dealer. Officers were able to locate, interview and search vehicle’s owner, who lives outside of city limits.
