SPRING LAKE (AP) — Spring Lake residents want to know if any town employees will be fired after the state auditor said she was forwarding spending issues to the State Bureau of Investigation for review.

The Fayetteville Observer reported about 100 residents attended a forum Tuesday about the audit.

The audit released last week reported problems in town financial records from 2010 to 2015. These included almost $91,000 in under-billings to a company; more than $366,000 of purchases without following the town’s policies; and more than $122,000 of purchases that the auditor’s staff marked as questionable.

The audit referred those purchases to the SBI.

Mayor Chris Rey says the town will establish a committee to review that spending. One resident said the committee should include residents in addition to town officials and employees.
