RALEIGH (AP) — The Governor’s Highway Safety Program says more than 600 motorists were arrested for driving while impaired during its Halloween enforcement campaign.

A statement from the program on Thursday said that of the 605 drivers arrested and charged, 557 were alcohol-related and 48 were drug-related.

During the four-day campaign, law enforcement across North Carolina issued 19,292 traffic and criminal violations at 2,118 sobriety-checking stations and saturation patrols. In 2015, 601 DWI charges were issued along with 15,855 other traffic and criminal violations at 1,553 sobriety-checking stations and saturation patrols.

Wake County had the most arrests with 53, followed by Guilford County (42), Forsyth County (27), Mecklenburg County (26) and Pitt County (24).
