LUMBERTON — The United Way of Robeson County’s first-ever Lip Sync Battle, which had been scheduled for October, has been rescheduled for May 11.

The event was a casualty of Hurricane Matthew, which flooded much of the county on Oct. 8 and the days following, forcing the delay of the event, which had been set for Oct. 20. The storm also forced the postponement of the agency’s fifth annual Dancing With the Robeson County Stars fundraiser.

The Lip Sync Battle will be held at the Carolina Civic Center at 315 N. Chestnut St. in Lumberton and money it raises will be part of United Way’s 2017 fundraising effort. The fun-filled evening will showcase groups of local folks lip syncing some of the most popular and memorable songs.

The street party starts at 6 p.m. and the show will begin at 7 p.m. Previously purchased tickets will be honored.

There are three ways to purchase tickets for the event. Visit UnitedWayRobeson.org, call the United Way at 910-739-4249, or stop by the agency’s office at 2512-A Fayetteville Road in Lumberton.

The fifth annual Dancing With the Robeson County Stars had been scheduled for March 24 and March 25 and dancers were paired up in August. The event will now be held in 2018, and the agency is hopeful that the dancers who have already committed will perform then.
