South Robeson claims first win

CERRO GORDO — On a touchdown pass with 3:02 remaining, South Robeson defeated West Columbus 28-20 on the road to claim their first win of the season.

Fabian Hunt connected with Tyric Hunt on a pass over the middle to cap off the second-half comeback from the Mustangs (1-7, 1-3 TRC). Down 14-12 in the third quarter, Jamera McLeod returned an interceptions 17 yard for a touchdown to put South Robeson up 20-14, before the Vikings later tied the game.

Darrius Brown scored on two rushing plays in the first half to pace the Mustangs’ offense.

South Robeson plays at Whiteville next week.

Richmond routs Lumberton on the road

ROCKINGHAM — Sophomore quarterback Braylan Grice rushed for two touchdowns in Lumberton’s 55-19 road loss to Richmond on Friday.

The Pirates (2-6, 0-2 SEC) fell behind 14-0 midway through the first quarter before Grice scored his first touchdown on a 16-yard run with 24 seconds left in the quarter. Before the half, Richmond added four more touchdowns to go up 42-7 into the intermission.

Grice scored late in the third quarter to cut the lead to 49-13 and on the final play of the game, the Pirates scored a touchdown on a 20-yard pass from Josh Britt to Brandon Norris.

Lumberton plays at Scotland next week.

Pinecrest cruises past Rams

PEMBROKE — Two late touchdowns were not enough for Purnell Swett to overcome Pinecrest at home as the Patriots rebounded with a 41-17 win over the Rams.

Junior running back Al’Drique Thompson scored two touchdowns in the fourth quarter to lead the Purnell Swett offense in the loss. Brayan Azua had two extra points and 35-yard field goal as time expired in the first half to round out the scoring.

Purnell Swett plays at Hoke next Friday.
