Johnson Locklear, 80, of 2886 Union Chapel Road, Pembroke, died Friday, Feb. 22, 2008, at Duke University Medical Center in Durham.
Funeral services were conducted on Wednesday, Feb. 27, 2008, at White Hill Freewill Baptist Church.
The Reverends Steve Strickland and Fred Locklear officiated. Burial followed in Lumbee Memorial Garden in Lumberton.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Adelaide Locklear; his parents, Frank Locklear and Ethel McIntyre Locklear; two brothers, Cecil Locklear and Robert Locklear; a sister, Eunice Moore; and two grandchildren, Tanya Locklear and John Thomas.
Mr. Locklear left Hoke County and moved to Michigan at a young age. There, he worked at Chrysler for more than 25 years before retiring in 1975. He and his wife returned to North Carolina in 1986.
Surviving are two sons, Richard Locklear and his wife, Sandra, of Las Vegas and Phillip Chavis and his wife, Bethyina, of Red Springs; four daughters, Carol Locklear and husband, Eugene, of Maxton, Valerie Locklear of Macomb, Mich., Flora Ford and husband, David, of Las Vegas, and Tawana Urban of Lumberton; two special daughters, Marie Scott and Kathy Clark; six sisters, Nola Hodgers, Christine Chapman, and Marie Jones, all of Fayetteville, Bonnie Locklear of Shannon, Linda Scott of Maxton and Betty Pagan of Raeford; 13 grandchildren; and 27 great-grandchildren.
