LUMBERTON — Felicia Evans Long, owner of Sweet Candy Cafe in downtown Lumberton, was recently recognized by the University of Phoenix, where she received her master’s degree in Business Administration.

The online college included Long in a list of alumni who “are realizing their dreams and running successful businesses.”A native of Rockville, Maryland, Long founded Sweet Events and Planning in 2008, the same year she graduated from the University of Phoenix.

The event planing company is located in Washington, D.C., and has been featured in magazines such as The Knot and Woman’s World.

Long started Sweet Candy Cafe, a confectionery store on North Chestnut Street, in 2012. The business, which has also been featured in Woman’s World, received a grant last year from the MC/Manufacturing Confectionery Publishing Company of Princeton, Wisconsin. The grant allowed Long to participate in the National Confectioners Association Sweets and Snacks Expo in Chicago.

According to a press release, Long is among the 10 percent of University of Phoenix alumni who own their own businesses.
